Yesterday’s post was rooted heavily in (^) this question I have been asking myself. Is it coincidental that the question arose out of life circumstances and shortly after I asked it, I found an answer in my reading? I don’t think so.
Luke 9:57-62 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke%209:57-62&version=NIV)
This passage contains three shocking stories of Jesus’ responding to people who’re interested in following Him. Not only does he refuse to nag or beg them to follow Him, He does quite the opposite; He challenges them and turns them away.
“Jesus never begged anyone to follow Him. He never waited for anyone, never sang one more verse while people decided whether to follow. He barked, ‘Follow Me!’ and kept going. Those who immediately dropped everything became His disciples; those who hesitated were left behind” (David Murrow).
